Locating the Agenda 2030: Cybervolunteers at the UN Sustainable Development Forum in New York
The High-level Political Forum (HLPF)
, convened within the framework of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations
, is the main platform of the UN on the progress being made at the local and global level for the Sustainable Development. This important event plays a key role in the monitoring and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs at the global level.
The HLPF 2019 takes place from Tuesday, July 9 to Thursday, July 18 at the New York headquarters of the United Nations. This year's main theme is "Empowering people and ensuring inclusion and equality".
Cybervolunteers has been invited to participate by UNITAR, within this framework, as one of the local agents that is carrying out activities to promote citizen participation in the achievement of the SDGs. This forum is an excellent framework to share our programs in this line as Empodera for the SDGs, the platform we are promoting with the support of the United Nations, to involve citizens in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and which has the support of the United Nations. Our idea is to internationalize a model of decentralized citizen participation that provides solutions to the challenges posed by the SDGs and the Agenda 2030.
A unique opportunity to provide the necessary space for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and success stories between national and local public institutions, authorities, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the private sector and the United Nations ecosystem. One of the parallel events we will attend will be the meeting "Locating the 2030 Agenda: Implementation of the SDGs at subnational and local levels". In this sense, it is important to point out good practices such as the one we are carrying out with the Ideatones for the SDGs in Spain, where we bring together local NGOs that want to solve a challenge with people who provide them with solutions and ideas. At the moment we have already carried two: one in Oviedo and other in Málaga with great success of participation.
