e-STAS, Symposium on Technologies for Social Action and Human Development, nace para dar continuidad a la actividad que tuvo la Fundación Cibervoluntarios en la Cumbre Mundial de la Sociedad de la Información (2003-2005).

Through the organization of the e-STAS, the Foundation Cibervoluntarios want to put the focus on the multi-sectorial and internacional characters of the exchanges had during the WSIS.

Indeed, Information Technologies and Communication Technology (ICT) are the heart of the new technological paradigm and, as Manuel Castells says, constitute “the element that is essential to promote productivity in the production process.” The “digital divide” or differential access to ICT - access, production and consumption of hardware, software, contents, endogenous capacity - is another weak flank in human development strategies in those countries. The ownership of these technologies is very important, especially in a context of growing inequalities, and will be possible only with the cooperation of all.

Such cooperation implies clearly that we encourage people to share best practices, innovations and experiences, and Networking work. However, the networking work must not have as an ultimate goal the simple fact to share and exchange information but the fact to generate a process of knowledge creation, of projects generation and above all must generate innovation through new technologies.

This year, the central theme of the e-STAS will be “Innovation for the empowerment of citizens”.

Inclusive and participative event, the e-STAS is is enriched by the experiences, knowledge, ideas and opinions of participants who come from very different areas.

Participation at e-STAS is a declaration to society of your compromise and will to eradicate the digital breach by betting for the innovative strategies related to the ICT’s and the social action.
